Here are easy ways to help keep mold out of your home:
1. Make sure there are no leaks or drips from faucets or pipes.
2. Keep caulking and grout fresh (If there are dark spots on the caulking, water has broken the seal somewhere).
3. Check your windows and window wells to make sure there are no leaks.
4. Check your foundation for cracks, or water on the surface.
5. Check your roof and siding at least twice a year for bad sections of shingles.
6. Make sure all gutters, downspouts and outside drains are clear and moving water away from your house.
7. Don’t let water pool against your house.
8. Watch for condensation, identify the sources and remove them (humidifiers, unexhausted bathrooms).

9. Inadequate ventilation in attics and crawl spaces.

These are just some of the main problems that can help cause mold in your home.

Mold remediation is the cleaning and/or removal of mold in your home, or other buildings.  We have seen many different types of remediation procedures at work.  One of the largest used form of remediation is the use of encapsulates that coat and seal in mold to stop its growth.  Many of these products are harmful to a person’s health, and often contain very harsh chemicals. It is often a situation where cheap products that don’t work can be used.  These encapsulates only enclose the mold to the surfaces that they are growing on, this means that any airborne spores, or hidden mold growth is not sealed in.  We have found a product that is completely, 100% natural and environmentally friendly.  The product is made of natural enzymes that we use to scrub and coat surfaces with, as well as fog through the air.  This ensures that all mold is reached whether it be surface mold, or airborne spores.  The enzymes and other natural components in the products attack and devour mold spores to keep them from growing again.

Many people believe that mold dies after it stops getting moisture.  It is in fact only dormant or asleep if you will.  Mold cannot grow if it has no water to help it, but it is still a sleeping menace if not cleaned or removed of properly.  Mold, even when dry, can cause some health problems, because if it is disturbed it can and will float through the air for all to breathe.  Also, with mold being capable of hibernating for years, any new moisture problems, or reoccurring old ones can allow the mold to begin growing again.

Have you ever had mold in your home or workplace?  It may be simple problems that are causing it to grow.  Mold needs two main things to grow: water and food.  The food that mold needs is almost anything that can absorb water.  Some examples of these porous materials include wood, drywall, ceiling tile, cardboard, carpet and carpet pads.  The water comes from any type of moisture.  Many common types of mold causing moisture are leaky pipes, floods, backed up sewers, steam in the bathroom or kitchen, humidifiers, or even rain that leaks in cracks or holes in the roof, siding, windows, window frames or the foundation.  Finding these problems is the first step, but getting rid of the mold is the next.
